Trip to Millom

I was fortunate to have recently met the artist Irene Rogan at an Arts Council England meeting in Workington and finally caught up with her again in Millom, where she has a studio (located in an old school building) right next to the medieval Holy Trinity Church and adjacent to Millom Castle.

She took me on a tour of a part of the shore, taking in the old docks and the Duddon sands, which as some of these images show seem to contain much hematite.

Before setting off on our walk Irene told me about her work with local farmers whose land surrounded this building out on the edge of Millom town and told me that she liked to run up the fells to keep fit. It wasn’t long before we were trundling over hilly mounds, negotiating fences and confronting signs warning of danger to life and limb.
